Decades of experience spanning corporate communications, journalism, marketing and public affairs

Shelley Spector, president

Shelley J. Spector is considered one of the field's most innovative strategists in the PR field today. She has counseled some of the world's largest defense, technology and communications companies — from Exelis and ITT to HP and AT&T — and has won more than four dozen awards, including the Silver Anvil and Gold SABRE.
Prior to founding Spector & Associates in 1991, Spector worked at Hill & Knowlton and  RuderFinn, and served as press relations manager for the American Stock Exchange.
She is an adjunct professor at the graduate level at NYU and Baruch College/CUNY, and has co-authored, "Public Relations for the Public Good," with Lou Capozzi demonstrating how public relations brought about social change throughout history. Spector is also founder of the Museum of Public Relations, considered by the international PR community as one of the foremost educational resources in the world.
Spector earned a B.A. Journalism at the University of Rhode Island and an M.S. at the Newhouse School, Syracuse University.

Barry Spector

Barry Spector has a background in both digital and conventional graphic design. With decades of experience as an illustrator and a corporate art director, Barry has designed and developed advertising campaigns and websites for AT&T, Exelis, Bell Labs and NCR.
Prior to co-founding Spector in 1991, Barry had been a creative director at an ad agency where he worked with clients such as the New York Mets and Turner Classic Movies. He served as an art director for Avon Products and at Forbes where he revamped their weekly magazine. He later introduced computer production to Della Femina McNamee Advertising to streamline its ongoing massive production operation.
Barry holds a BFA from Pratt Institute in communications.

Benjamin Gorelick

Ben Gorelick brings a wealth of knowledge to Spector. His background spans international development, economics and political/public policy.
At Spector, Ben develops and executes communication strategy for clients within the defense, industrial technology and energy industries. Ben takes a particular interest in the science and engineering dimensions of his clients’ work, immersing himself in the technical specifics and working directly with engineering and business development departments to craft accessible, engaging materials for technical and non-technical audiences alike.
His prior experience includes time at the Institute for Public Policy Research in his native Namibia and in the policy and research directorate at the U.K. Department for International Development (DFID). Prior to this, he also worked with a firm that specialized in private sector market research with a focus on health communication.
Ben graduated cum laude from Brandeis University with a BA in economics and political science.
